“And you are complete in Him, Who is the head of all principality and power.” Colossians 2:10 (NKJV)
What a profound statement! As we reflect on the significance of Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection, we realise that without Him, we are nothing.
As life presents one challenge after another, we frequently quote Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.” Sometimes, we say it with conviction, truly standing in faith, and we embrace our victory. At other times, we merely parrot the words as fear, worry, doubt, and anxiety dampen our faith.
But what does this verse truly mean to us? First of all, the words ‘I can’ tell us that the choice is ours. We have already been empowered, but we make the decision whether to use that power. The word ‘do’ speaks of action. So, we, you and I, choose to perform that action. We decide to activate our faith to meet life’s challenges frontally.
Beloved, we are not operating in a vacuum or in self. We run through troops and leap over walls ‘through Christ’. He is the One Who makes it possible. He is the One Who takes our mustard-seed faith and magnifies it until it is large enough and strong enough to give us victory. That is why the verse ends with ‘Who strengthens me’.
So, what is ‘all things’ to which the verse refers? Just that. All things. Not just the impossible. Everything we desire, everything we are compelled by others to do, everything we balk at and would prefer not to do. Everything that we are afraid of doing. All things.
This is only possible, however, if we are in a committed relationship with the Lord. Period. A committed relationship means we are complete in Him, and our relationship does not lack anything. Trust is paramount. Love is a must. Hope in Him and His Word form the third arm of the triangle.
As we go through our days here on earth, let us truly mean what we say, whether we whisper or shout, “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being obedient to Our Father and dying on the cross so that I can live. I’m so thankful that all principality and power is subject to You. This empowers me to be able to do all things through You. I commit myself to do all things in Your most holy name, and I promise the glory will go to You alone. For You alone are God. I declare that I am complete in You, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
